Jen and
Byron, at separate times,
drove to Indianapolis to take the STRAUBINGER PAD
CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP, which is an intensive, multi-day course,
designed specifically to cover the concepts, methods of application, and
procedures involved in installing Straubinger pads. It is exclusively
for experienced repair technicians.
Straubinger™ Pads are designed specifically for hand-made flutes and
consist of different materials and components than a traditional pad.
The patented pad support unit and profiled washer are machined to close
tolerances, one at a time, on a high precision lathe. The actual
installation of the Straubinger™ Pad requires careful preparation of the
flute. The instrument must be in the very finest mechanical condition in
order for the pads to be installed properly.
Successful completion of the workshop is determined solely at the
discretion of David Straubinger and entitles the repair technician to be
a certified Straubinger repairman, with full entitlement to use the
Straubinger™ Pad in their repair business. Jen and Byron are Rochester’s
only two repair technicians to earn this designation. Up
until now, flutists in the region with Straubinger pads needed to send
their flute out of town. With two local certified technicians right here
(in the same shop no less!),
they no longer have to part with their flute for too long or risk
shipping it.
